President’s Message

Greetings to members and friends of the Rattlesnake Mountain (RSM) Section.  I hope all had a safe and enjoyable holiday season.  We had two interesting technical meetings in October and November regarding lesson’s learned from transitioning from P3 and P6 and how to set up your P6 schedule to facilitate risk analyses.  Our next three meetings will focus on the risk analysis process.  Our April meeting features PC personnel from Energy Northwest, who will be talking about scheduling and “controlling” the outages at the Columbia Generating power plant.  In May we are pleased to announce that we will be joined by our AACEi President, Mark Grotefend.  The October and November meetings were well attended, and I hope to see many of you at these coming meetings; and remember, each meeting is worth 0.25 credits to your recertification.

Speaking of recertification, I thought a handy reminder of what it takes to recertify might be helpful.  You must recertify every 3 years, which you can do by building up points or retaking the exam, and some $$S as well.  As most of us probably don’t want to take the exam again, using points (called the Professional Credit Plan) is a good option.  You need 15 credits in total, of which 9 credits can be earned just by working in the cost engineering, estimating, scheduling, project controls, or related field (3 credits /year).  That leaves 6 credits to be earned.  As mentioned above, you can earn 0.25 credits for meeting attendance, up to 1 credit per year, so there is another easy 3 credits – assuming you get to at least 4 meetings a year.  So how to get the other 3 credits?

Professional societies seminars, conferences, workshops, online courses will get you 1 credit per 10 hours, as well as will cost and management professional development courses sponsored by a corporation, university/college, or professional society.  If you write, 2 credits can be earned for a paper published or presented.  But an easier way to earn credits is by becoming involved with Section leadership.  You can earn 2 credits each year that you are an elected Section officer or Director, and up to 1.4 credits per year by volunteering as an exam proctor or head a Section committee.  So by simply working, attending, and serving – in other words – being involved in your Section, you will have ample credits for recertification.  Attached is the Recertification Guide or see AACEi’s web site for more info.

In that regard, you will soon be receiving an announcement from the Section asking for nominations for next year’s officers.  The following 1-year officer positions will be open:

President                   Vice President                    Secretary                         Treasurer

And two Director positions are open:                Director (2 Year Term)

The RSM Section also has several committees (Nominating, Scholarship, Membership, Education, Publicity, and Certification) which need leaders.  Please let a Section officer know if you are interested in serving in this capacity.  I encourage you to take this opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience and gain “easy” recertification credits.

The RSM Section will be hosting the March 06th CCC/CCE/EVP/CEP/PSP exam for those of you who have registered for the exam.  The next exam will be June 26th in Atlanta, GA, as part of the AACEi Annual Meeting, or July 10th in local sections.  The Early Deadline for registering is April 27th, and the Final Deadline is May 11th, for either of these exams.  The next exam date after that will be November 6th.     Please pass this information on to those who are not currently members, but are interested in becoming certified – and encourage them to join with AACEi as well.

I’m looking forward to the remaining spring technical meetings, and hope to see many of you at our section meetings.

Ron Clendenon

President, AACEi Rattlesnake Mountain Section
